096 | Owning Your Journey

“Owning your journey” is one of our core values here at Cultivating Sanctuary (SM). Life can throw a lot at us. This value is both about claiming agency in our own lives and recognizing that who we are as people is not static.

“Owning your journey” is about actively engaging in reflective and healing work that processes the messiness of our human lives and relationships in order to grow in health, wholeness, and well-being. It is about harnessing self-awareness and self-understanding to integrate practices that will help you to be well amidst life’s disruptions.

“Owning your journey” can look like a lot of different things. It might look like:

  • Setting and keeping boundaries

  • Working with a counselor, therapist, spiritual director, coach or mentor

  • Taking a digital course or other path of active learning

  • Getting clear on the why behind your yes and no decisions

  • Waiting, prayer, or another discernment process

  • Dismantling old narratives that no longer serve you or your relationships

  • A decision to change something big or something small about how you do life—at home, in your vocation or avocation, in your relationships with yourself or others

  • Rest, sabbath, and practices of renewal

“Owning your journey” is about saying:

  • “I take responsibility for my life.”

  • “I take responsibility for how I respond to things within and outside my control.”

  • “I have agency and power to shape my own life.”

  • We do this remembering none of us will do this perfectly. We are all works in process—and beautiful ones at that.
