075 | Making Room for Heartbreak & Grief
My heart feels tender and weary today. Last night I heard heard the news that someone who was an important part of my life 20 years ago died by violence on Sunday. Heart breaking. I had news on Sunday that someone who has been part of our life at Pine Lake for nearly 50 years died at the age of 93. It feels like the end of an era.
The grief I feel on a personal level at the loss of these good and beautiful people is layered with a communal grief, anger, anxiety, and weariness in these days that is fueled by:
💔 The impending verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the killing of George Floyd
💔 The amassing of the National Guard and law enforcement in anticipation of the verdict
💔 The death of Daunte Wright during a “routine traffic stop” instigated because of an air freshener
💔 The response to people peacefully protesting his death in Brooklyn Center
💔 The senseless killing of young Adam Toledo
💔 The mass shooting at FedEx in Indianapolis
This list could go on and on and on.
Today I will cultivate sanctuary in my heart and body and spirit by making room:
✨ Making room for grief
✨ Making room for remembering
✨ Making room for prayer
✨ Making room for lament
✨ Making room for moving my body
✨ Making room for grace
✨ Making room to breathe deeply of God’s ever present and renewing Spirit.
When we make room for tending our tender and weary hearts, we make room for engaging in this heartbreaking and beautiful world on a different day from a place of renewal and resilience.
Today, I make room.
How will you make room to tend your spirit today?
