083 | Change in Plans

I wish I knew who created this graphic that was circulating on social media. If you know, please tell me so I can give credit where credit is due.

This week has taken an unexpected turn. Miss T has been in person for school all year, for which we are so grateful; but her class had their first Covid exposure, so she’s home this week. ⁣

⁣Upon hearing the news, I felt this tension between care for the student and their family and being a little bummed at having four days that were open now taking a new shape. I had to make peace with the fact that these days would not be for the deep creative work I had planned.⁣

⁣After her first day home being a day when we just rolled with it, today we need some structure. I have two goals:⁣

⁣🌸 Get some things done that have been consuming mental energy but don’t actually require a lot of deep thought or even a lot of time.⁣

⁣🌸 Involve Miss T as much as possible so she’s not on screens all day.⁣

Here’s my list. It’s ambitious so I won’t be upset if I don’t finish it all. Progress and engaging Miss T are the priorities.⁣

⁣✅ Make a pie with Miss T *⁣

⁣✅ Pull weeds from Zone C (yes, I divide my garden beds into zones to make the work feel less daunting) *⁣

⁣✅ Measure floor vents (this has been mental load for way too long)—I can do this while T is doing school work⁣

✅ Put away recipes and pull new ones for coming meals *⁣

⁣✅ Put a new ink cartridge in the printer⁣

⁣✅ Write tomorrow’s post for Cultivating Sanctuary ⁣

⁣✅ Sort laundry *⁣

⁣✅ Clean out email⁣

⁣✅ Change T’s sheets *⁣

⁣✅ Walk to the green park with T *⁣

⁣✅ Write copy for the email that delivers my free download to people who sign up for my email list (more on this soon)⁣

⁣* denotes things I can do with Miss T⁣

Again, I know this is an ambitious list but I’m considering today as a series of Power Hours (a la @gretchenrubin ). Checking several of these off will give me some mental space that will allow me to better use the small windows of quiet time for the deep work I’m craving.⁣

How about you?⁣
