020 | Savoring Advent

Advent begins tomorrow. My goal for this year is to savor it.

The last few years I have allowed myself to get caught up in busyness. This year I want to be intentional about a few practices, which means I need visual reminders to follow through.⁣ ⁣

Besides lighting Advent candles and Miss T’s nativity Advent calendar, my heart is drawn to focus on gratitude and hope. Each day we will add leaves to this garland with a word of gratitude or by naming something or someone that ignites hope. I love that it is something I can do on my own or our family can do together.⁣ ⁣

The Gratitude and Hope Garland is really a tool for deeper practice—the practice of waiting and watching, the practice of paying attention, the practice of noticing, the practice of naming, the practice of honoring the interconnectedness of our human community, the practice of centering in the One who is the source of it all. That all feels very Advent to me. That’s what I want to savor. ⁣ ⁣

What do you want to savor in these next four weeks?⁣ ⁣

Special thanks to A Beautiful Mess for inspiration from your Thanksgiving garland and the template for the leaves.⁣ ⁣

Shout out to Miss T for cutting out all the leaves.🍂⁣ ⁣
