Cultivating Sanctuary

Here in west central Wisconsin, we’ve already had snow that stayed on the ground for a week and days that have felt more like January than October. Thankfully we’ve had some warmer temps. The snow has melted and I’m ready to reclaim fall. ⁣

One thing I love about autumn in Minnesota and Wisconsin is how the colors shift from shades of green to vibrant yellows, reds and oranges and finally become a nuanced spectrum of browns. The subtle beauty invites pausing and noticing and wonder at the renewing cycles of creation. ⁣

Today I am creating a sanctuary space where I live. I am content to have cut dried hydrangeas from the garden paired with the purplish-blue of dried grocery store flowers. This little vignette is in the heart of our home and it calms me. If it snows tomorrow (please, no!), I can still savor the beauty of fall and for a time slow the transitioning seasons.⁣
